About
Hi there, my name’s James and this is a little bit about me and why I call myself the Dancing Geek.
I’m a contemporary dancer
What that means changes pretty much monthly, from improvisation with musicians, to working with professional choreographers, via site-specific dance work. You can get a look at some of the rehearsal vids or some of my personal dance snapshots.
I’m a wisdom seeker
This blog has been a record of my journey inwards so as to connect with what is really important in my life. It’s a mixed bag of random thoughts, more constructed articles and mindless ramblings. It’s a journey that I can see continuing for the rest of my life and one that is central to making sure that I feel I’m making the most out of my time here on Earth.
I’m a total geek
I have a degree in Mathematics, a love of the internet and a penchant for pedantry.
While my ‘right’ hemisphere may be the land of dance, my ‘left’ is all about logic and patterns. The magic happens when the two unite.
Other stuff
I live just outside Derby, in the UK, with two gorgeous Netherland Dwarf rabbits and my partner. If you think rabbits should be kept in a hutch in the garden and don’t really have any personality then you don’t know rabbits. Our two live with us in the house, but in separate rooms because they’re both boys and fight like crazy if they get near each other.
I love food. Cooking is fun, but eating is better. I grow a little of my own in our garden turned veg patch and my favourite food is most definitely Italian. Pizza, pasta, tomatoes, basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar…(drool).
I try and learn Grade 7 piano pieces for fun. I have never sat a piano exam, but I can read music. So far I can play 1 piece.
I harbour a love of stationery, particularly colouring pens.
